Wake Up! Move Your Heart From Your Chest, To Your Mouth, and Into the World!

“I have faced it, a life wasted and I’m never going back again.” – Pearl Jam
I wasted a few decades of my life.I was sleep walking. Here’s why—I was afraid of what “they” might think. It was as if I were on an assembly line where some skilled mechanics had installed my lower body, and then the skilled mechanics bolted my upper body in place. Next, the expert mechanics put “what they thought” into my brain, and the fear of what “they might think,” if I went against what “they wanted me to do.” In the words of the Saints and poets of many cultures and creeds, I needed to “wake up.” To the possible horror of a Saint or 83, I “woke up” at a Doors Of The 21st Century concert. When my blog launches, I will tell you the full story, and no… I was not on any drugs, legal or illegal. 🙂
I am Culture Creative, Hear Me Roar
Written by Kim Candlish
I was on the cusp of puberty when Helen Reddy had her big hit, I Am Woman (hear me roar). It must have been pretty funny for my parents to watch me walk around the house singing, “I Am Woman”, or maybe a little bit frightful. For one reason or another this song came to mind when I was looking around this website and I came across the subject of Culture Creative.
So I asked myself the five questions to see if I roared.
The Words That Connect Us
Sometime I feel like it is impossible for us to find words that we all connect with. Yet, I think that nothing is impossible.
I’ve got a dream to get to space and if you tell me that isn’t possible, I’d ignore you. I’ll get there, just wait and see. I’ll be like Lance Bass, hurtling through space.
But I digress. Let’s get back to the topic at hand.
Finding the Right Words
I am constantly perplexed by how to succinctly describe Cultural Creativity and Innerpreneurship. Which leads me to be constantly perplexed by how to describe myself and what I do.
I know I’m not the only one. In fact just yesterday I read this helpful article from Freelance Switch on How to Describe What You Do. But I feel almost embarrassed to say that I have trouble describing what I do, especially since my “expertise” is suppose to be with words.
But perhaps that is where the problem lies, I over think it too much. I don’t just want words to use, I want the right words to use. I want to use words that make the Cultural Creatives of the world perk up and take notice.

Deep Thoughts (That Are Not My Own): The Global MicroBrand & Being Productive
Weekly I read articles that I absolutely love and connect with. There are so many talented bloggers out there. I think I follow over 100 blogs now. That’s a lot of thoughts! If I didn’t have an RSS news reader, I would be lost.
For a while, I have been saving articles I like. And by saving I mean keeping the article open in a browser tab for weeks until I invariably close the tab and lose the article. I kept meaning to share them with you. But I never was. No more. From now on I will do a weekly Tuesday post on great articles I read the previous week.
Here are this week’s open tabs:

Black & White Thinking
My Question
I posed this question on Twitter a few days ago:
Wondering why many of us think there are only 2 ways to do things. The right way and the wrong way. When has anything ever been that simple?
The Reason I Asked It
I asked this because I was tired of the drone of experts on Twitter. Don’t get me wrong, the medium has great value to meet interesting people but unfortunately your tweet stream can often be full of people pimping their ideas. And their common strategy to garner attention and business is to spout a black or white advice.
Watching Culture Evolve: A New Cultural Creative Study To Be Released Soon
Wisdom University’s Institute for the Emerging Wisdom Culture, directed by sociologist Dr. Paul H. Ray (one of the original authors of The Cultural Creatives), has almost completed a major new study on America’s Cultural Creatives.
The findings of the study were set to be released in the Summer of 2008…but weren’t. I recently read that a Fall 2008 date was set. Any day now, I guess. I’ve signed up to be notified of the release of the Cultural Creative study and will be sure to write all about the findings.

I just learned of photographer/artist Chris Jordan’s brilliant exhibition, Running the Numbers: An American Self-Portrait. Chris combines specific quantities of something (such as plastic cups), statistics (one million plastic cups are used on airline flights in the US every six hours) and photographic inventiveness to present viewers with a real and stark understanding of America’s outrageous consumption patterns.
